The OnePlus 5T has just been revealed.

It’s OnePlus’ latest flagship smartphone, and it’s designed to compete with much more expensive handsets, such as the iPhone 8 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S8+ and Google Pixel 2 XL.

Here’s everything you need to know about the device.

Design and display

The 5T looks much more modern than the OnePlus 5, which came out earlier this year.

That’s because OnePlus has decided to dramatically increase the handset’s screen-to-body ratio, by shrinking the bezels.

It’s a good move, and though the 5T isn’t quite as attractive as Samsung’s latest flagship, it looks better than the iPhone 8 Plus and Pixel 2 XL.

Its black, aluminium unibody is simple and slick, and a circular fingerprint sensor sits on the rear, just above the OnePlus logo.

On the front is a 6-inch, Full HD AMOLED display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. It’s a significant step up from the OnePlus 5’s 5.5-inch screen, and is large enough to make small-handed consumers think twice about buying it.

Camera

Like its predecessor, the 5T features a dual-camera system. It combines a 16-megapixel primary sensor with an f/1.7 aperture with a 20-megapixel secondary camera with an f/1.7 aperture.

OnePlus says this camera setup is built to deliver better low-light performance than the company’s previous phones, which should help you capture clearer pictures at night.

It has also tweaked Portrait Mode, which which automatically blurs the background of images to make the subject stand out, with new software that should improve noise reduction.

Battery

The 5T is loaded with a 3,300mAh battery, which should last “a day at least” for “an average user”, says OnePlus.

We were impressed with the stamina of the OnePlus 5, which also uses a 3,300mAh battery, so things look promising for the 5T.

It comes with Dash Charge functionality too, which lets you charge the phone back up incredibly quickly.

Other features

The 5T comes with facial recognition, so you can unlock it by looking at it. OnePlus says it’s “one of the fastest” systems of its kind on the Android market, and that it uses “over 100 identifiers”.

However, you can’t use it to authenticate payments, and OnePlus says it won’t work when you have your eyes closed.

The 5T comes with either 64GB or 128GB of onboard storage and, disappointingly, you can’t expand that with a microSD card.

Price and release date

The 64GB model of the OnePlus 5T comes with 6GB of RAM and costs £449, and the 128GB model comes with 8GB of RAM and costs £499.

That’s great news for consumers, who would need to pay around £200 more for one of the phones it’s competing with.

It’s available for pre-order right now, and will start shipping on 21 November.
