Bardo Museum attack one year on: How the terror strike has changed tourism in Tunisia

One year on, Simon Calder reflects on how the event impacted the travel industry and what it means for tourists today

Today marks the one-year anniversary of the deadly terrorist attack at the Bardo National Museum in Tunisia.

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the incident that left 24 people dead, including 20 foreign tourists.

In the year since, travellers have been the target of several other acts of terrorism, including a shooting on a beach at a Tunisian resort, the explosion of a Russian passenger jet and, most recently, a suicide bombing in the heart of Istanbul’s historic district.

In the wake of the two Tunisian attacks, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office has warned against all but essential travel to the country, advice that Simon Calder does not believe will change any time soon.
