Departures: Bliss with the kids
JUDE NICHOLLS of Lichfield (Independent Traveller, 30 January) wrote seeking information about a 'holiday village/community', preferably near the sea, where she could relax while her nine-year-old daughter had opportunities to make friends.
Rosalind Neill of Birmingham recommends a chalet on Dunster Beach in Somerset. 'It's magical: there are just the chalets, the beach and the sea. It's perfect for children.'
Mrs Neill, who has four children, had a chalet there last year and paid pounds 170 for one week. Further information from Dunster Beach Holidays, Dunster Beach, near Minehead, Somerset.
HF Holidays (081-905 9388) is the recommendation of Ruth Milne of Twickenham. 'Jude Nicholls will meet congenial, friendly people. Enthusiasm for books, art, music and the open air are regarded as perfectly normal.'
Rosemary Danby of Stroud recommends the Manor House Hotel at Sowley Cross, Nr Okehampton, Devon EX20 4NA (0837 53053). 'We have spent many happy hours here with our three children. Bliss] It has an arts centre, T-shirt painting, kite-making and candle-making. Send for a brochure to see how varied a programme they organise.' The hotel also offers an indoor pool and sports activities. A three-night package costs from pounds 80; child discounts are available.
