THE DEVALUATION of the West African franc last month - from 50 to 100 CFA francs to one French franc - has made the CFA area much better value for tourists. It includes Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire, Togo, Benin, Niger, Cameroon, Chad, Central African Republic, Congo, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

The Rough Guides would welcome news from travellers visiting West Africa over the next few months. Please write to: Richard Trillo, Rough Guides, 1 Mercer Street, London WC2H 9QJ.
