FOR anyone keen to meet local people during their travels in Eastern Europe, the 'People to People' series of guides devised by Jim Haynes - which began with Romania - has been expanded. The two new guides, each pounds 4.95, are Poland and The Baltic Republics and Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Bulgaria. A third, covering Russia, is due in May.

Each of the guides offers advice to local people who want to meet foreigners. As well as names and addresses, a listing provides information on whether or not the person speaks English and provides bed and breakfast. 'They want to show you how they live, introduce you to their favourite places, and help you find accommodation.'
