We’re living in an extraordinary time for travel. After many months of staying local, holidays have finally been given the green light from (hopefully) 17 May – just in time for what we hope will be a bumper summer season.

Some travellers resemble coiled springs, ready to go to any location at the drop of a credit card; while others are cautious about the constantly changing tangle of travel restrictions, and the risk of being stuck on the wrong side of someone else’s lockdown.

But one thing has never changed.

I’ve been writing about travel for The Independent for 27 years, celebrating the best the world has to offer. In that time, the newspaper has provided guidance on planning a journey thoughtfully, choosing the lowest-impact means to reach a destination and maximising the benefits of tourism to host communities.

We’re also committed to taking you to the best destinations, and hunting out the best deals from across the world, whether that’s a week on a European beach or a sleeper train trip to Scotland.

As consumer champions, we hold companies to account if they treat travellers unfairly – and provide unparalleled advice to holidaymakers about when, where and how they can use their time and money most wisely.

In my Travel Week email I’ll be providing regular round-ups of key developments in the world of travel, as well as inspiring your next trip – wherever that may be.

To sign up for my email, including money-saving advice, destinations and reader questions, fill in your email in the box above or click here to sign up for our range of newsletters.

The email will arrive in your inbox every Friday morning. Have you got a question? Contact me on Twitter.

Simon is hosting a free event on 28 April, where he’ll untangle the latest news in the world of travel and let you know when, where and how you can go on holiday this summer. You can book a ticket by signing up to his weekly newsletter here: https://www.independent.co.uk/newsletters
