OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

Located in SoHo, one of New York's liveliest and trendiest districts, the hotel is also less than 15 minutes from Chinatown, Tribeca, Greenwich Village and the Lower Side, and only a bit further via the subway to Brooklyn and Times Square, so there's a host of things to do nearby. French brasserie Balthazar, French/Moroccan Café Gitane, and popular bars Spring Lounge and Mother's Ruin are just some of the highlights of this vibrant neighbourhood.

By plane: flights to New York take 6 hours 50 mins from London and Edinburgh, and 7 hours 10 mins from Manchester. The hotel is a 45-minute taxi ride from JFK airport. Book flights to New York.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

Renowned hotelier and designer Kit Kemp is behind The Crosby Street, which puts art, bold colour and good design at the forefront of a luxury hotel. A tall red-brick building accented with black-framed windows, it's chic and hip. As well as the relaxing lounge and lively bar/restaurant areas, there's a delightful courtyard ideal for an al fresco summer's evening.

THE FACILITIES

Although there's no spa or pool, this is easily made up for with such charming surroundings. There's a small gym, a screening room, a courtyard garden, a buzzing restaurant and bar, and homely lounge areas with fireplaces and sumptuous colourful sofas. Although there's no business centre, laptops can be borrowed, as can DVDs, books and CDs from the library.

FOOD AND DRINK

The buzzing oak-floored and colourful all-day Crosby Bar leads to a lovely courtyard garden. It has a good spread for breakfast, both buffet and à-la-carte, and some tasty dishes for later on, such as tuna tartare with soy-yuzu dressing or smoked salmon on sourdough.

Crosby Bar & Terrace: modern European dining. Open daily for breakfast, brunch, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. Mains from $29.
