OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

Although this Brooklyn neighbourhood doesn't have a huge number of restaurants and bars, a subway station is just three blocks away to whisk you to Manhattan - while brownstone Brooklyn, consisting of Cobble Hill, Brooklyn Heights and Fort Greene, has more lively nightlife and is less than a 30-minute walk from the hotel.

By plane: flights from London, Manchester or Edinburgh to New York take 7 hours. A taxi will take one hour from JFK airport. Paid parking available nearby. Book flights to New York.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

Designed by Gene Kaufman Architects, which has designed 12 other New York IHG hotels, such as the Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza, the look is pleasant enough while adhering to its budget position in the marketplace. The lobby leads to a lounge, restaurant and bar area with tables, a leather-like sofa, fabric brown sofa and easy chairs.

THE FACILITIES

There's a mid-range restaurant and bar, self-serve food and soft drink kiosk, table tennis, a two-level gym with yoga, spin classes and group runs to Brooklyn Bridge Park. There's also a seventh floor terrace and a bricked courtyard by the bar.

BED AND BATH

What stands out most with the 202 spacious, bright and airy rooms is the gym equipment they contain - such as foam rollers, yoga mats, core exercise balls and resistance bands. The TV has work-out videos and there's a safe, mini-fridge, table and chairs, and a shower room.

Room types: Standard, Two-bed Standard, Premium

Key amenities: ensuite bathroom with toiletries, hairdryer, tea and coffee facilities, in-room fitness equipment, air conditioning, TV, free Wi-Fi

FOOD AND DRINK

As well as a self-service kiosk in the lobby with pastries, snacks, crisps, coffee and juice, there's a healthy-eating focused restaurant. The menu isn't huge and dishes include an asparagus frittata, pearl sugar citrus waffle, omelettes, shrimps and salads.

EVEN Kitchen & Bar: fresh and healthy dishes to promote wellness. Dishes include flatbreads, salads and brunch items. Open daily for breakfast and dinner.
