Hotel Review
Hotel Review: The Jane Hotel, New York
You trade space for location at this historic hotel that once took in sailors as well as some survivors of The Titanic. Rooms are tiny and the bar and restaurant are currently being upgraded, but there's lots of historic detail and charm.

OUR REVIEW
THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
Located on a residential street in the Meatpacking District on the edge of the West Village, a neighbourhood in the western section of the larger Greenwich Village in Lower Manhattan, the hotel sits across the street from Hudson River park. It's in a quiet corner, with restaurants, bars and shops all nearby. The subway is also close.
By plane: flights from London, Manchester or Edinburgh to New York take 7 hours. A taxi will take 40 minutes from JFK airport. Paid parking available nearby. Book flights to New York.
THE LOOK AND FEEL
This historic hotel boasts hip, vintage décor, and numerous charming details such as brass hooks, vintage-style textiles and period-style lights in the guest rooms and lobby.
THE FACILITIES
The restaurant, bar and lounge area are being renovated and hopefully will be operational again in 2024. Although there are currently no facilities to speak of (although free bicycles are available to borrow) the service is very polite and efficient, especially from Tiana on reception and doorman Gerald.
- Free bikes
- Free Wi-Fi
BED AND BATH
The building was originally constructed for sailors; rooms are designed to feel like a ship's cabin, and are suitably as cramped as that. There are shelves, a flat screen TV, air-conditioning and under-bed storage. Standard rooms have shared bathrooms, while the larger, plusher rooms have private bathrooms.
Room types: Bunk Bed Cabin, Standard Cabin, Captain's Cabin
Key amenities: shared bathroom, bathrobes and slippers, TV, safe, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi (based on Bunk Bed/Standard)
FOOD AND DRINK
Both the restaurant and bar are being renovated and will hopefully be open again next year.
