Ash 'supremo' is appointed

A volcanic ash "supremo" was appointed yesterday.

The Government's Chief Scientist, Professor Sir John Beddington, will chair a group to collect and consider all data on ash concentrations.

Philip Hammond, the Transport Secretary, said Sir John's team would establish how best to update the Met Office "model" used to predict ash cloud movements.
