Click, pack and go: our pick of the week's deals
This has been the week of the uncomfortable union: Unite calling another series of BA strikes and, more surprisingly, the Cameron-Clegg partnership. Only time will tell whether coalitions work for the greater good of the travelling public.
For those of us who are more individually inclined, Friendship Travel ( www.friendshiptravel.com) is offering the chance to set sail on a singles’ holiday on a Turkish gulet this summer. Departing on 7 and 14 June, the seven night holidays cost from £699 per person, which includes flights from Gatwick, transfers and full board in an ensuite cabin for sole occupancy.
Meanwhile, Just You ( www.justyou.co.uk) has a selection of singles’ holidays on offer, including a 10-day Wonder of China trip, which costs from £1,479 per person. The price is based on a 16 June departure and includes flights from Heathrow, transfers, eight nights’ full board and the services of a tour leader who will escort you to sites in Beijing, Chengde, the Great Wall, Huaqing and Xian.
Once the crowds have dispersed from South Africa this summer, expect a sharp drop in air fares. www.ebookers.com has deals on South African Airways flights from Heathrow to Cape Town and Johannesburg costing £649 and £569 respectively for flights between 1 August and 17 September. Alternatively, KLM ( www.klm.com) is offering discounted fares to South America, Egypt and Japan this spring. Returns to Lima start at £601 per person, £291 to Cairo and £463 to Tokyo; fares are available until 7 June and travel dates vary.
Of course, some things work better in numbers: family holidays, for one. If you have yet to decide on a half term break, there are plenty of offers to tempt you away from these shores. Scott Dunn ( www.scottdunn.com) is celebrating the launch of a new luxury villa in Mallorca with £1,500 off the rental price in June. Josefa in Pollenca comes with a swimming pool, chef and nanny and sleeps eight people; June rental is £5,995 per week. Coastline ( www.coastline.co.uk) has the luxury Villa Stella Cadente near Ste-Lucie in Corsica, which sleeps up to six people, for £999 per person commencing 30 May. The price includes flights, car hire and a week’s rental of the villa.
Finally, if striking cabin crew and volcanic ash clouds are causing you to have travel doubts, then a safe bet is a narrowboat holiday on the Grand Union Canal. Waterways Holidays ( www.waterwaysholidays.com) is offering 10 per cent off May half term holidays based at Linslade in Bedfordshire. For example, “Oak”, a boat sleeping six people, now costs £1,400 for a week commencing 29 May, including fuel, bed linen, tuition, damage waiver and a British Waterways license. A grand union indeed.
