Dubai, California, Borneo and Turkey: Great getaways
The latest deals and destinations

Desert form
Emirates rarely offers the cheapest non-stop flights to Dubai, but a promotion intended to fill seats during the winter sees fares from Gatwick cut to £356 return. You must book by 23 September and travel between 15 September and 15 March next year, with a long exclusion between 11 December and 12 January. Departures on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays cost £20 more (emirates.com/uk).
Best of the west
Trailfinders has a one-week tour of Nevada and California in November that begins with a non-stop Heathrow-Las Vegas flight and two nights in the city; further nights are spent in Death Valley, Yosemite, and San Francisco, before the non-stop flight home. The price of £799pp includes car rental and mid-range hotels (trailfinders.com).
Borneo bound
Despite its tragic year, Malaysia Airlines continues to operate a full schedule – and offers excellent deals from Heathrow via its hub, Kuala Lumpur. Travelling next month, there are plenty of seats at £650 return from London via KL to Kota Kinabalu, on the island of Borneo, giving access to rainforest, beaches and South-east Asia's highest peak, Mount Kinabalu (malaysiaairlines.com).
Turkish shores
Thomas Cook has a wide range of package-holiday deals around £200 for travel in September from airports across the UK. A week in the Turkish resort of Marmaris, for example, departing Gatwick on 22 September, costs £190 including flights (but not meals on board), transfers, baggage and B&B accommodation at the Ekin Hotel (thomascook.com).
