Newbie sailors can now try a taste of life on the ocean wave on a skippered gulet along Turkey's Lycian Coast. Exclusive Escapes (020 8605 3500; exclusiveescapes.co.uk) has launched a new mini-cruise where you can mix days at sea with further nights at a boutique hotel. For example, a week with two nights' full board on a skippered, three-cabin gulet and five nights' B&B at the Dionysos Estate costs from £1,050 per person, based on two to six sharing, including return flights from Heathrow or Manchester to Dalaman and transfers.

Take your water-babies to Neilson's (0844 879 8155; neilson.co.uk) new beach club at Messini, Greece. The five-star resort in the southern Peloponnese has a variety of activities to keep families active, but the focus is on watersports. A one-week family holiday costs £5,924 for two adults and two children, with return flights from Heathrow to Kalamata, transfers, half board and four dinners, activities and kids' clubs.

In Fuerteventura, René Egli (rene-egli.com) offers kitesurfing holidays from a new base at the Hotel Melia Gorriones on the southerly Jandia Peninsula. A week's half board in August costs from £899 per person with flights from Gatwick and transfers with Sportif (01273 844919; sportif.travel). A day's kitesurf lesson costs from £220 per head.
