Make for Menorca

Catch some late-season sun on the Balearic island of Menorca. Directline Holidays has a week-long stay in the self-catering Blancala Apartments on the west coast for £162 per person including Monarch flights from Luton on 26 September. Visit the unspoilt beach at Santandria nearby or spend time exploring the cobbled streets of the pretty port of Ciutadella. www.directline-holidays.co.uk

Egyptian escape

The Grand Resort in Hurghada lives up to the scale that its name promises, with three swimming pools, eight restaurants and more than 800 rooms. The hotel also has access to a private beach, though this is 300m away. A fortnight at this Red Sea resort costs £679 per person, including breakfast, transfers and Monarch flights from Gatwick on 26 August. www.redseaholidays.co.uk

West Country wonder

There's more to Somerset than Glastonbury. Visit Dunster Castle, explore Shapwick Heath nature reserve or enjoy a day at the seaside in Weston-super-Mare. Even better, during August, the Swan Hotel in Wells is offering a two-night break with breakfast and three-course dinner for £128 per person, based on two sharing. The hotel has 48 individually styled bedrooms and a pretty terrace, where guests can take in views of the 12th-century cathedral. www.swanhotelwells.co.uk
