A Jubilee Line train travelling at speed with its doors open was caught on camera by passengers on Saturday 1 September.

Two friends posted videos of the incident, which saw a number of doors on the train remain wide open while it raced down the track at around 40mph, onto social media.

In the footage, the train can be seen whipping past the landscape through the open doors, although those onboard appear unfazed.

Christiano Nops wrote on Instagram: “Took the Jubilee line Saturday with Rory Brown and the driver thought it was OK to leave the doors open...better than the air con but not particularly safe!?!”

Meanwhile, fellow passenger Rory Brown posted a video on Twitter, saying: “New way to keep tubes cool in the summer – leaving the doors open. Pretty bloody sketchy! #whatishealthandsafety?”

The fault did not appear to be limited to one set of doors, as he later added: “It was at least 10 different doors along one side.”

TfL responded to Rory’s tweet: “We were made aware of this yesterday and the train was taken out of service and currently under investigation so thanks for letting us know. Sorry for any inconvenience caused and hope your journey was okay.”

Network operations director for London Underground Nigel Holness told The Sun: “The safety of our customers and staff is our top priority.

“On Saturday at around 9am we were alerted to some of the doors on a Jubilee train remaining open for one stop between Finchley Road and West Hampstead.

“The train was immediately taken out of service at West Hampstead and a full investigation is underway to understand how this occurred.”

This comes after the recent news that millions of commuters will face almost a year’s more misery with the abrupt postponement of the opening of Crossrail.

The rail line through central London, connecting Reading and Heathrow Airport with East London, south Essex and north Kent, was due to open in December 2018.

But Crossrail Ltd, the Transport for London subsidiary that is building the line, has announced it will now not be ready until “autumn 2019”.
