Lost passport fee to rise 2.9 per cent

Britons who lost their passports abroad will have to pay more for replacement documents from next week.

The cost of issuing passports overseas, including temporary and emergency documents, is to rise by 2.9% from April 6.

Fees for passport applications in the UK will remain at current levels, with a standard adult passport costing £77.50.

A standard passport for over-16s issued overseas will rise to £128, an emergency passport £71, and emergency travel documents £91.50.

Foreign Office minister Chris Bryant said other consular fees were rising by 2.9%.

He told MPS: "It is right that those who benefit from consular services should meet the cost of them, rather than the UK taxpayer."
