Northern Lights break: Make me an offer
Short haul, long haul and cruise options
One holiday, three ways. We targeted three companies to ask for their best offer on a trip to see the Northern Lights, departing in January: one short haul (Iceland), one long haul (Canada) and one cruise (Norway). Prices are per person, based on two travelling together.
Short haul: £259, Icelandair Holidays
Includes Icelandair flights from Gatwick to Keflavik in Iceland on 13 January, three nights' B&B at Hotel Cabin in Reykjavik, and a Northern Lights Hunt. "Iceland provides some of the best Northern Lights viewing conditions in the world," says Paivi Fonteriz (0844 811 1191; icelandair.co.uk).
Long haul: £1,922, Discover the World
Includes Air Canada flights on 16 January from Heathrow to Fort McMurray in Canada, via Calgary, and nine nights' accommodation. "At the night-sky viewing centre, local astronomy experts share information about the aurora," says Lizzie Bourke (01737 214 291; discover-the-world.co.uk).
Cruise: £899, Hurtigruten
Includes flights from Gatwick to Tromso in Norway on 28 January, transfers, two nights' B&B and a three-night cruise to Kirkenes, half-board. "Hurtigruten sails beneath the auroral zone and away from the light pollution on land," says Matthew Valentine (020 3582 6642; hurtigruten.co.uk).
