Storm Ali: Ryanair plane forced to abort landing at Dublin Airport

Passenger describes 'screaming and crying' from those on board

A Ryanair plane was forced to abort a landing attempt on its final approach to Dublin Airport due to severe weather conditions caused by Storm Ali.

One of the passengers of the 9.50am plane from Brussels to Dublin, Kirsten Jongberg, described it as the worst flight of her life: “There was much screaming and crying from passengers, but pilots guided us in safely on second attempt.”

According to Ms Jongberg, the aircraft was forced into a lengthy holding pattern near the airport before being authorised to land, and was hit by intense turbulence as it neared the runway.

When the jet finally managed to touch down, “the plane continued to rock like a boat in a high storm”, and a ladder operated by the ground crew “went flying”, she said.

While disembarking, Ms Jongberg said a member of the crew admitted they too had felt stressed about the landing.

Over 250,000 homes and businesses across Ireland have suffered a loss of power due to Storm Ali.

A 50-year-old woman died after the caravan she was in was blown off a cliff in County Galway, in the west of Ireland.

Forecasters have issued an orange-level alert for more than half of the country.
