The website: Historic Britain allows you to book B&Bs, hotels and holiday lets with notable character. Properties range from a 15th-century manor house B&B to an 18th-century Cotswold farmhouse (historicbritain.com).

The attraction: Aurora Reykjavik recreates the spectacular Northern Lights year-round in the Icelandic capital. The attraction uses multimedia to bring the phenomenon to life (aurorareykjavik.is).

The hotel: The Four Seasons Lion Palace has opened in St Petersburg in a 19th-century palace. Some suites have views of Saint Isaac’s Cathedral and there’s also a spa and Japanese restaurant (fourseasons.com).
