Travel Agenda: North Carolina Museum of Art; BBC's David Shukman; Mawazine Festival

Today: The North Carolina Museum of Art reopens in Raleigh after a major renovation. There will be a new light-filled building surrounded by sculpture gardens and more than 100 new acquisitions, including a Rodin statue. A free festival celebrates the opening ( ncartmuseum.org ).

This week: On Monday, the BBC's environment and science correspondent David Shukman will be talking about his new book, Reporting Live from the End of the World, at the Royal Geographical Society in Kensington, west London (rgs.org). Also in the capital, a microcosm of South Africa will be unveiled on Thursday at the British Museum. South Africa Landscape is a joint venture between the museum and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, and will highlight the diversity of the Cape region with a garden of fynbos heather, quiver trees, red-hot pokers, African lilies and more; until 10 October ( britishmuseum.org ).

In the diary: The Mawazine Festival comes to Rabat, capital of Morocco, from 21-29 May. The five stages – Urban, International, Moroccan, Oriental and African – will host the likes of Santana, Julio Iglesias, Sting and BB King as well as home-grown acts ( festivalmawazine.ma ).
