Tomorrow: Check into Francis Ford Coppola's latest hotel, Palazzo Margherita which has just opened in Italy. The film director and hotelier – who has retreats in Belize, Guatemala Argentina and the US – promises "frescos on its ceilings ... and palatial rooms" in his first European hotel (palazzomargherita.com).

Meanwhile, the celebrity chefs of Cornwall are rustling up a feast this weekend. There's a spring farmers' market at Jamie Oliver's Fifteen in Watergate Bay today (fifteencornwall.co.uk). And Rick Stein will be at his Cornish Arms pub in Padstow signing books at 11am ahead of the weekend-long "Beer and Mussels" food event (rickstein.com).

Next week: On Thursday, the Museum of Contemporary Art reopens in Sydney after a A$53m (£35m) renovation. It will unveil three new galleries and a bold, modern extension called the Mordant Wing (mca.com.au).

In the diary: Closer to home, the annual Berlin Biennale cultural festival takes place from 27 April, with exhibitions, talks and events at a host of venues across the city until 1 July (berlinbiennale.de). And the Dutch celebrate their Queen's Day on 30 April, with Amsterdam traditionally leading the revelry. Expect seas of orange-clad locals, food stalls, music and a carnival-like atmosphere (amsterdam.info).
