Pucci, Jardi, Fleur, Gary and Hippy have been jazzed up to rival Scooby-Doo's Mystery Machine and equipped with iPod/iPhone music and phone systems, and iPads preloaded with films, games and guides. You can even have the fridge stocked with local treats and champagne awaiting your arrival, and request a couple of electric bikes to take along too. The vans can be delivered to airports including Bergerac, Limoges and Agen. A week costs from £375, excluding fees for campsites – which the company can book for you on request.
In the UK, The Cornwall Camper Company (07815 808181; thecornwall campercompany.co.uk) is now open for business, offering two stylish vintage camper vans for hire and a programme of activities, titled Adventure Packages, including yoga, fishing, coast-to-coast bike tours and more. From £300 for a week's van hire, prices for activities on request.
The first luxury camping site in Sardinia, Bella Pineta, is opening its tent flaps in the grounds of a 17th-century country house, near the village of Martis. The three large Emperor tents (above, middle) come with king-size beds dressed in fine linen, with private log-cabin bathrooms and a decking and dining area. One Off Places (oneoffplaces.co.uk) offers three-night minimum stays from £150. Flights not included.
