Gatwick lottery

The emergency timetable on the route from London Victoria comes into effect today. The Gatwick Express reduces from four per hour to three, but timings vary from one hour to the next.

Capital connection

Singapore Airlines is launching flights from Singapore to Canberra on 21 September. The new four-times-weekly service will offer a one-stop link from Heathrow and Manchester – current options from the UK all involve at least two stopovers. After Canberra the flight will continue to Wellington, New Zealand.

Beach base

Domes Noruz is a new adults-only beachfront hotel in Chania, Crete. Sister hotel to the Domes of Elounda, the new outpost has minimalist interiors, with retro touches such as Smeg fridges and mid-century-style furniture, and some rooms come with their own plunge pools or outdoor baths.

Med express

A new high-speed ferry link connects Barcelona with the resort of Sitges, about 25 miles south-west of the Catalan capital. The Bluemar Ferries service departs six times a day from a wharf at the foot of the Ramblas. The fare for the 45-minute journey is €17 one way, €29 return.

Dog days

YHA England and Wales is now allowing dogs in its cabins and camping accommodation, including tepees, bell tents and pitch-up facilities. Dogs can stay at more than 50 sites for a fee of £5 a night, or for free at properties where owners can bring their own tents. Pets must be microchipped, fully vaccinated, and kept on a lead at all times.

Ride on

The Cyclist’s Bucket List is a journal for cyclists to tick off iconic rides they have completed. A checklist and space for notes is accompanied by images by illustrator Eliza Southwood, of routes including the Tour of Flanders Sportive and the London to Paris ride. £12.95.
