Plane makes emergency landing after woman dies on flight

A flight had to make an emergency landing in Belgrade after a woman became critically ill then died onboard.

The passenger fell unwell not long after Wizz Air flight W6 6411 from Kutaisi, Georgia, departed for Milan, Italy on Monday.

The crew gave what assistance they could before the flight diverted to the Serbian capital so the unnamed woman could receive further medical assistance on the ground, before she was ultimately pronounced dead.

Wizz Air said in a statement: “On 17 December 2018 Wizz Air’s W6 6411 Kutaisi-Milano Malpensa was diverted to Belgrade after a passenger experienced a medical emergency.

“Due to privacy concerns, no information about the passenger is available. Our flight crew provided emergency care for the passenger on board and medical assistance was arranged by the crew to be waiting for the aircraft in Belgrade.

“Wizz Air regrets to confirm that, despite the instant and professional medical assistance provided by its crew on the flight and after landing, by the medical staff that met the airplane in Belgrade, the passenger’s life could not be saved.

“Wizz Air expresses its deep condolences to the passenger’s family.”

The flight departed at 3.50pm and was due to arrive in Italy at 5.15pm local time. After the A320 aircraft made the emergency landing, the flight departed Belgrade at 6.50pm and arrived in Milan an hour and 25 minutes later at 8.15pm.

In June, a British man died after needing medical attention on a Jet2 flight from Manchester to Ibiza.
