Alpine resort coverage is getting better every day

Heavy snow fell across many Swiss resorts earlier this week, with more predicted and temperatures remaining low

Conditions across the Alps continue to improve. Snow depths have seen an almost daily increase and good lift operations are currently on offer in most resorts. The freezing level has fallen considerably, with snow down at village level in many resorts. The avalanche danger remains high (4/5 across much of Europe) so be cautious.

Conditions remain excellent across many French resorts, and base depths continue to increase. The northern Alps are seeing some of the heaviest snowfall, with many resorts receiving around 20-plus centimetres of fresh snow on Thursday. Chamonix (40/300cm) has seen the best of the recent snowfall, with over two metres in the last week; conditions are excellent across the mountain as a result.

The weather was changeable across Austria on Thursday, with light snow showers in some resorts.

Most Italian resorts saw around 10-30cm of fresh snow over the course of Thursday. Snow will continue to fall this weekend in the Aosta Valley, with around 10-15cm forecast. Elsewhere in Italy it will be largely sunny, but will remain cold, with temperatures not expected to get above minus 10C this weekend.

The best conditions in Bulgaria are still to be found on the upper slopes of Bansko, which now has 10 out of 14 lifts turning. Conditions at Borovets and Pamporovo are still hard-packed, but, with heavy snow predicted, we could see upwards of 60cm of fresh fall by the end of today.

Excellent conditions remain across most US resorts. More snow is due in the west, with upwards of 50cm predicted by today. The east can expect around 10-15cm of fresh snow by early next week.

Conditions also remain very good across much of western Canada, with the east coast looking to catch up after a sustained period of low temperatures and decent snowfall. The heaviest of the snow will fall over British Columbia, with Whistler expecting nearly 50cm.
