Winter begins tomorrow, as far as airline schedules are concerned. The new BA timetable reveals a resumption of flights between Heathrow and Beirut, but the inbound leg has the most anti-social departure times imaginable: 3.45am on Sundays, 4.30am on Tuesdays.

From this morning, however, the new carrier British Mediterranean Airways is flying daily between London and Beirut at more civilised hours.
