FURTHER to the discussion on Christmas Day transport (Independent Traveller, 1 January), Mr I S Nicholson of Whitehaven informs me that on 25 December Merseytravel operated 14 routes hourly between noon and 5pm with free travel on major routes. 'This was aimed particularly at hospital visitors, with all hospitals in the area being served. On 26 December over 50 routes were operated from 10am to 11pm, with a flat fare of 30p. Both initiatives ought to be applauded.'
