THE travel publisher Rough Guides is hedging its bets ahead of the day when we all decide Abroad is really far too risky and we should stay at home instead.

Its list of forthcoming publications contains new destinations such as Goa, Romania and Singapore. But instead of a Rough Guide to Santo Domingo, try Placido Domingo. In 1996, Opera: the Rough Guide is due to appear, no doubt including a list of the best barbers in Seville.
