IN A recent article I remarked that if we bought cars with the same penny-pinching attitude as we buy holidays, the roads of Britain would be jam-packed with Skodas. David Benwell of Worthing, the owner of a K-reg Skoda Favorit, was incensed at my 'odious' comments.

'You may be the ultimate in travel writers, but it is evident you know little about cars. I have owned, from new, various cars, including Volvos, Citroens and Rovers, but I have to say my latest - the Skoda Favorit - is a real bargain at the price and deserves all the praise heaped on it by various motoring correspondents.'
