Travel: Trek with Noel

FIONA BARLTROP of Burgess Hill, Sussex, writes to endorse Ruth Picardie's praise for the writings of Noel Rochford and his Sunflower guides (Independent Traveller, 1 January). 'I am a keen walker and off-the-beaten-track explorer, and for many years Noel has provided me with invaluable guiding services and acted as a companion and friend. His written words enlighten and enhance every journey. Together we have visited and explored Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Gomera, Rhodes and Corsica - his enthusiasm for the islands permeates every page. I get itchy feet reading his descriptions of new walks, new places to be discovered. And I, too, enjoy the challenge of matching my pace with him and on occasions - a proud boast - outpacing him.
