19 June - 6 July
Brisbane
You wouldn't associate the sunshine city of Brisbane with snowball fights and cold weather fun, but for almost two weeks you'd be wrong. Tobogganing, ice skating and a snow-play-area are all part of the annual Fire and Ice Festival. Fireworks, light displays and themed spicy restaurant menus provide the fire.
20 - 28 June
The Kieler Woche, Kiel
The world's largest sailing event will attract around 5,000 sailors from more than 40 nations. Thirty-five warships from 14 nations will open their doors and fireworks with music will round off the event. This is northern Europe's largest summer festival, with musicians such as Mungo Jerry and Alannah Myles lined up, and the opera house is to stage the world premiere of Schimmelreiter (The Rider of the White Horse).
