Get the kids to knock up Easter bonnets with a twist at a Mad Hatter workshop at the Design Museum in London today and next Sunday. Materials will be supplied and staff will be on hand to impart their skills to children aged five to 11 years. Book at tickets @designmuseum.org or on 020-7940 8783 (designmuseum.org).

Explore the underwater life of an African lake at the Lakes Aquarium in Cumbria using the new Virtual Dive Bell experience. From this weekend, get face to face with hippos, crocodiles and bull sharks and use interactive screens to find out how they live in the wild (aquariumofthelakes.com).

Just turn up and follow an egg hunt trail while answering quirky science questions at the Observatory Science Centre in Herstmonceux, East Sussex, today and tomorrow (the-observatory.org).

Or head for the Westonbirt National Arboretum in Gloucestershire, where the Eggtastic Family Event takes place today and tomorrow. The free family trail will have kids hunting the eggs and then working out who laid them (forestry.gov.uk/westonbirt).

Get involved in science with interactive events for families at the Edinburgh International Science Festival, which kicks off on Tuesday and continues until 5 April (sciencefestival.co.uk).
