Cool Place of the Day: The Angel Inn, North Yorkshire
Every day, a new place to discover or explore from coolplaces.co.uk
The Angel Inn in Hetton is one of the Yorkshire Dales' most celebrated gourmet-dining destinations, and the accommodation is pretty snazzy too – four contemporary bedrooms adjacent to the inn, and a barn conversion across the road which goes for a handsome French country style in its two studios and three suites.
You pay your money, you take your choice – polished beams, an antique Victorian bed and a rustic-chic air in the Rylstone Suite, for example, or a grown-up, white-is-all-right designer suite with patio doors that open on to the garden. Attention to detail is spot-on too, from iPod docks in the rooms to fresh milk and lemons in the fridge. All the while, you're mere steps away from the the inn's gastropub, which is the Yorkshire Dales' original and perhaps best.
Rested and fed, the Dales awaits the next day. You're in the heart of a small hamlet, around six miles from Skipton and its castle, and not far from good walking country around Grassington. There’s no question that the Angel makes a perfect base from which to explore. Return to the inn in the evening for a spot of well-earned relaxation in its comfortable and unpretentious guest rooms, and sample something new from its celebrated menu.
