Realist Pope Francis calls for concrete help for Typhoon Haiyan survivors, not just prayers
Pope Francis has captured hearts and minds worldwide with his humble and practical interpretation of the Gospel.
His latest tweet shows he is a realist Pope, implying that prayer alone will not sustain those suffering in the aftermath of Typhoon. What the survivors need desperately, is food, shelter and medical treatment.
He tweeted the following on Monday afternoon.
The Vatican on Monday announced it was donating $150,000 in emergency aid to the Philippines in the wake of Typhoon Yolanda, or Haiyan to give it its international name.
This is in stark contrast to Pope Benedict, whose last donation hit headlines before his resignation was£150,000 to help convert disenchanted Anglicans move to the Roman Catholic Church.
Monday’s donation was intended as “a concrete expression of the pontiff’s spiritual closeness and paternal support for the people and territories devastated by the floods,” the Vatican said in a statement.
