THERE HAVE always been conflicting versions of the incident of King Canute on the beach (Letters, 18 April), so I should like to know if there are any reliable accounts in diaries or letters. Are there any tapes, videos or news films? Failing evidence of this kind, I suggest that we believe what we like.
