Sir: We may not like what David Irving writes, but we cannot deny him the right to write it, or anyone the right to publish it (Tony Sacker's letter, 8 July).

We then have our right to criticise it, and it will stand or fall on its merits. This is the way freedom of expression works, and any attempt to interfere with that freedom should be deplored.

Yours sincerely,

PHILLIP KNIGHTLEY
