Letter: How long before a plane crashes on London?

Sir: Last week a parliamentary Select Committee examined air traffic control and received yet further evidence about the risks of routing aircraft over London and other cities.

The committee received a copy of the initial report of the US White House Commission on Aviation Safety and Security which demonstrated that TWA800 had awoken the USA to the subject. The dreadful reality is that nobody is taking personal or corporate responsibility for the public safety consequences of increasing air traffic over London. It is simply not in anyone's interest to do so because the risks and liabilities are too great. The UK urgently needs a Commission on Aviation Safety and Security too.
