Letter: Marriage Bill gives couples a choice of places to wed

Sir: I have to disagree with Virginia Ironside's assertion that the proposed deregulation of civil weddings devalues marriage per se. I believe that a couple should be able to choose a place which is special to them, for whatever reason, instead of the local registry office, especially for those who are not active Christians.

Not wanting to be married in the same place as my brother, sister or other friends - Cambridge Register Office - I went to Las Vegas and married at the Little White Chapel. Arriving in a stretch white Cadillac, I was married in a happy, personal and intimate ceremony.

Yours faithfully,

TOM JEFFORD
