Sir: Instead of wasting money on worthless monuments being promoted by self-serving politicians and pontificating architects ("Welcome to the pressure dome", 23 December; letters, 24 December), why can't we simply determine to spend the same money on making sure that there will be no homeless people having to sleep on the streets of our cities and towns by the year 2000?
