I WAS astonished to read the front-page article in the Independent on Sunday by Nick Cohen ('Civil servants complain about minister', 17 July).

Let me make it clear that the Association of First Division Civil Servants has not sent a detailed complaint to Sir Robin Butler about Charles Wardle, the Home Office Immigration Minister.
