Sir: You carry reports today about unwanted New Age travellers on a farm in Powys, and about the activities of Stone Age worshippers in a pre-historic building in Jersey. Apparently, 'the Stone Age worshippers would probably have sat around the bones of their ancestors in a drug-induced (from opium or hashish) trance designed to put them in contact with the spirits or gods'.
May I suggest that when David Mellor can find the time, he turns the Stone Age temple into a festival site, so that the New Age travellers can indulge in drug-induced trances and visitors to the site can watch them re-enact Stone Age customs. Surely this is what a living national heritage is all about?
Yours faithfully,
MARK AMBROSE
