Letter: We'd all get a lift if we dressed in kilts

AS BRITAIN becomes more and more marginalised in world affairs, it becomes necessary to develop a strong national identity.

How better than by having a true national dress? I would suggest that the kilt be adopted as the outward sign of being British.

Accepting that such a move would bring cries of shock and horror from those who regard it as a purely Scottish thing, I would point out that over the past 200 years it has been accepted by Lowlanders who in the past would never have deigned to wear the kilt. So there is a precedent for it being adopted.

Kilt-wearing would demonstrate a unity and solidarity of purpose, and would preserve part of our British heritage and pride; resisting the creeping grey uniformity of the modern world.
