"When gay meant mad", (Review, 4 August) should be recommended reading for psychologists as an illustration of our sometimes misguided professional past and as a reminder never to behave like that again. For those gay men and women who might wish to approach a psychologist, be reassured - an increasing number offer treatment that acknowledges that being gay is an alternative devel- opmental end-point for some.
