WHY such small-mindedness from Jenny Gilbert on Irish dance ("From the bog country, matadors on speed", 11 June)? The bog country! Surely any critic should recognise that Riverdance has done something for Irish culture that no amount of Morris men can hope to do for England. Grudging phrases such as "an elaborate form of clog dancing" and "prancing fillies" is poor praise indeed.
Not everyone is taken by the Irish style of dance, but to dismiss it in such snide and pejorative tones is to fail to recognise the dis-cipline, art and beauty involved.
