It Is difficult to square Dermot Clinch's report of Roberto Gerhard's neglect by publishers and record companies with the facts (Real Life, 29 September). His two principal publishers, Boosey & Hawkes and Oxford University Press have promoted his music internationally for decades.
Two 1996 projects - the publication of the first vocal score of The Duenna and a new edition of Soirees de Barcelone - represent a five-figure investment. As to recording, there is an on-going series on the Auvidis label and Chandos has embarked on its own Gerhard series. Most composers would relish such neglect.
