From Mr Michael Meadowcroft

Sir: Members of the Liberal Party, who believe that the Liberal Democrats' acceptance of the equal status of social democracy undermines their liberal pretensions, are used to the Liberal Democrats being referred to as the Liberal Party without correction. However, it really is unacceptable (Letters, 27 June) to have two graphs, supposedly illustrating Liberal Democrat local government success, which start in 1978 and 1980 respectively, many years before the party was even formed.

Yours faithfully,

Michael Meadowcroft

President, The Liberal Party

London, SW1
