Even Meghan Markle has to face the dilemma of which tricky family members to leave off her wedding's guest list

Meghan couldn’t choose who her father married next, but she can edit them out of her life

President Trump isn’t the only person whose tweets are designed to cause maximum anxiety – Meghan Markle’s half-sister Samantha Grant has decided to use social media to publicly whinge about the arrangements for the royal wedding on 19 May.

Earlier this week, she told followers she was “excited” and “looking forward” to receiving her invitation. She hoped that London was “wheelchair friendly”, as she suffers from Multiple Sclerosis.

Later, though – possibly when it transpired that a stiff, white card from the Royals would not be plopping into her mailbox – Grant changed her tune, complaining that “more than 1000 complete strangers are invited”.

Grant continued: “Smoke and mirrors cannot hide the elephant in the room. Out of respect, tradition and humanitarianism the Markles should be invited.”

Just 600 people will witness the ceremony inside the Chapel at Windsor, all with links to the couple – an intimate event by royal standards. Outside will be 2,000 specially invited members of the public.

Wedding guest lists are always a source of anxiety.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had to decide what to do about her dodgy Uncle Gary – he was invited to their 2011 ceremony with his second wife.

Pippa invited Gary to her wedding ceremony last year, but he did not attend the reception.

Samantha Markle hasn’t seen her half-sister since 2008, has repeatedly given interviews to television networks and tabloids about their family, and has written an upcoming book entitled The Diary of Princess Pushy’s Sister.

I think we all know why that invitation is never going to arrive. Meghan couldn’t choose who her father married next, but she can edit them out of her life.

By banning politicians, world leaders and untrustworthy family members from her wedding, the saccharine Meghan Markle has finally earned my respect.
