Duckie Thot: Everything you need to know about the new face of L’Oréal Paris

The 22-year-old model is making waves in the fashion world

Duckie Thot - a champion of inclusivity and diversity - has been revealed as the new face of L'Oréal Paris.

Thot is a key member of the Fenty Beauty squad, made her runway debut at Yeezy spring/summer 2017, and is set to walk in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show later this year.

But, her accomplishments don’t stop there. Now, the 22-year-old has signed a mega deal to be L'Oréal Paris' newest global ambassador.

Posting the news on Instagram, Thot wrote: “Beyond blessed to be the new global spokeswoman for @lorealmakeup,” alongside a photo from her first campaign as spokeswoman.

In a statement to WWD, she added: “I’m honoured to represent L’Oréal Paris, a brand that celebrates infinite ways to be beautiful and makes products for all women.

“I’m looking forward to helping more girls love the beauty of their dark skin. In my mind, I’m going back in time and telling the young girl I was: ‘Dream big, work hard and trust in yourself girl, because one day you’re going to say yes to the number one beauty brand.’”

The rising star will make her first appearance for the brand on September 30 on the runway of its fashion and beauty show on the River Seine during Paris Fashion Week.

Her debut campaigns for L’Oréal Paris are to be for Volume Million Lashes, Colorista, Infallible Foundation and Rouge Signature.

“While emerging in a new generation of models, Duckie Thot knows how to use her voice to match the strength of her images,” said L’Oréal Paris global president Pierre-Emmanuel Angeloglou.

“Her energy and message of inclusivity make her a perfect recruit for the L’Oréal Paris family: original and confident in her self-worth. We’re delighted to welcome Duckie and for her to continue motivating women to believe in their own beauty around the globe.”

Born in Melbourne, Australia, to parents who had escaped Sudan’s civil war, the young model’s full name is Nyadak Thot. However, she started going by “Duckie” when teachers and classmates couldn’t pronounce her name.

One of six siblings, it was Thot’s sister, Nikki Perkins – a popular YouTuber alongside her husband Jamie Perkins – who introduced her to the world of modelling by taking her along to photoshoots when she was 15.

In 2013, she appeared on the eighth season of Australia’s Next Top Model and finished third before making the decision to move to Brooklyn, New York, and jump-start her career.

The aspiring model quickly captured the imagination of the fashion industry, making her runway debut at Yeezy spring/summer 2017 and featuring in campaigns for Moschino, Oscar de la Renta, and the Pirelli calendar.

Most recently, she walked in New York Fashion Week for Savage x Fenty and regularly appears in Fenty Beauty campaigns - her shade is #490.

One of L’Oréal Paris' reasons for signing Thot as a global ambassador is the message of inclusivity that she so fiercely champions.

No stranger to the ongoing discussion surrounding the lack of diversity in fashion and beauty, Thot has spoken out about the topic a number of times.

Earlier this year, she revealed that she still has to bring her own foundation to shoots because makeup artists often don’t carry shades dark enough to match her skin.

Previously, she also wrote a candid Instagram post about her struggle to not only embrace her natural hair on set, but also how difficult it is to find stylists who know how to deal with her hair texture and type.
