The first on Marvel's incoming slate is one of its most curious entries, Doctor Strange.

The film sees Benedict Cumberbatch take up the role of Stephen Strange, a neurosurgeon whose career is left in tatters after a devastating car accident. Thus, he must embark on an arduous journey of healing; encountering Tilda Swinton's Ancient One - essentially normal Tilda Swinton but bald - who introduces Strange to the world of mystic arts.

Following a psychedelic first trailer, Comic-Con's Marvel panel has offered up a second just as ambitiously trippy in its visuals; offering a better look at Strange's magical abilities, alongside an Inception-esque folding city that promises a truly unique climactic battle.

Directed by Scott Derrickson, the film also stars Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Mordo, Michael Stuhlbarg as Nicodemus West, Benedict Wong as Wong, and Mads Mikkelsen as villain Kaecililius.

"It’s a story about him discovering he doesn’t have anything," Benedict Cumberbatch told Comic-Con attendees. "He’s just at the beginning of understanding our reality."

The release of the new trailer also accompanied a brand new poster for the film, which helps to reinforce the far-out visuals the trailer is so clearly aiming for.

Doctor Strange hits UK cinemas 28 October.
