Shooting has already started on Bridget Jones 3 and now, Reese Witherspoon has sparked rumours that there could be a third Legally Blonde on the horizon too.

The Oscar-winning actress revealed her enthusiasm for bringing back law whizz Elle Woods and Bruiser the Chihuahua during an appearance on Fashionably Late with Rachel Zoe over the weekend.

“I think we’re ready to see Elle and see what she’s up to lately,” Witherspoon said in response to a fan question.

“A lot of writers over the years have come up with different ideas for it. I actually think it’s kind of great right now because we’re talking about women in politics and how important that is to get more women.

“I think it’d be kind of a cool thing to have her be a Supreme Court justice or someone who runs for office. President!”

Obviously, MGM studio would have to agree to greenlight a threequel, but surely it’d be pretty hard to say no to Elle herself?

The first movie grossed $141 million worldwide in 2001 while sequel Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde arrived two years later and made $124 million. Then of course there is the Legally Blonde musical, which opened on Broadway eight years ago.
